Notice the arms around each other... Prickly cactus arms. They are probably pinching each other too!
We have learned a lot about the Saguaro cactus...
They can live 200+ years
They grow arms at 50-100 years old
They begin to flower when they are 35-50 years old
They have wood spines so they are more like trees
They weigh about 100 pounds per foot of cactus
The fruit is red and the seeds are eaten by the native people
Young saguaro plants need shade and protection so they usually grow under a tree (called a nurse tree) and eventually tower over the tree
