The Maule Family is melting!

The Death Valley

The hottest, driest, lowest place in North America and can claim the hottest recorded temperature at 134 degrees. Today the highest we saw was 119.

It's not the flat expanse of desert sand we expected, but a low valley surrounded by mountains. It's beautiful, though pretty desolate. Very little vegetation can survive the heat (no cacti here) and even the lizards have run for the shade. It's much rockier and colorful than the Sonoran desert.

This is more like what we expected.

Sand dunes.

We decided to head for higher ground. Only 95 up here.

Upside down again.
