Petrified Forest National Park

The Painted Desert

Old Route 66

Crazy Ali driver!

The power lines ran along the old road. It was the only place the Route 66 went through a national park. You can see the interstate the distance.

Petroglyphs

Agate Bridge (Petrified tree across a drainage. It's reinforced with concrete.)

The ground in this area is littered with Petrified trees. They say it was once a rainforest with big trees and giant crocodile-like dinosaurs. It's hard to believe in a hot day like today. Ali kept looking for some shade trees.

The colors are from different minerals that were in the tree. When the silica replaced the tre material it reacted with the minerals and made the colors.

This one really looked like wood.
