One thing we love about our Maule Family Adventures is that we get to visit friends and family along the way. Today was a perfect example! This trip has been different for us. We do not have many people to visit (or invade, as the case may be) in this part of the country. We have heard about Jim's great uncle Ray who lives in Las Vegas for years and now we have had the privilege of meeting him! Uncle Ray is Jim's grandmother's (Elaine's mom) younger brother. No one in Jim's family has seen him for many years.
Uncle Ray is amazing! He is 92 years old and drove in his Prius to meet us at the all-you-can-eat buffet at the local casino. We went a bit on the early side because he doesn't like to drive after dark anymore. He came to Las Vegas in 1979 and bought land. He developed a mobile home park south of the city where he still lives on his own, with his two dogs. He is a great story teller and has some fantastic tales about his life in LA before Vegas, and all of his adventures here. He worked hard and seems to have done well for himself.
We are grateful that we got to spend some time with Ray and can report back to Jim's family that he is doing well and likes visitors.
Selfie so I could be in the photo too.
A side note- the girls brought one of their card games to play before dinner. We were explaining gambling to them and they asked if they could gamble on their game. The food case in the background is just the dessert. More food than they have ever seen in one place! They loved dessert!!!
